How does Jimmy Joy perform their Quality Assurance?

Ever wondered what happens before a Plenny Shake, the Plenny Crisps or an Omega 3 capsule lands on your doorstep? Quite a lot, actually. Our Quality Assurance team watches over every step, from the raw ingredients all the way to your delivery. Here's how.

What we make (and check)

Our range has grown a lot. Today we offer complete meals (Plenny Shake, Plenny Shake Pro, Plenny Bar, Plenny Pot, Plenny Drink, Plenny Oats), high-protein snacks (Plenny Protein Shake, Plenny Crisps) and supplements (Omega 3, Creatine Gummies, Pre Workout and Creatine powder). Every single one of them goes through the same rigorous QA process.

It starts with the ingredients

Quality control begins before anything reaches the production line. Our production partners are responsible for sourcing and checking all raw materials, but we also do this for some ingredients that we supply to them. We only work with ingredient suppliers who hold internationally recognised certifications like BRC, IFS, ISO standard (e.g. ISO 22000) or FSSC22000. Every ingredient undergoes an appropriate risk assessment covering microbiological, chemical, physical and allergenic hazards. Our production partners verify Certificates of Analysis (where applicable) before raw materials enter production. In addition, we commission independent third-party laboratory testing on selected products every year to verify compliance with microbiological and heavy metal specifications as part of our ongoing quality monitoring programme.

Our production partners

We work with carefully selected production partners, each one certified (BRC, IFS, ISO or FSSC22000) and regularly audited by third parties.

Before we work with any new partner, we run a thorough qualification process: facility audits, documentation reviews and trial production runs. Once they're onboarded, we stay closely involved through regular quality reviews and ongoing communication. Every product that leaves a partner facility has to meet Jimmy Joy's own standards as well as applicable European food legislation.

How we protect each product

Different products need different packaging, but the goal is always the same: keep it safe, fresh and nutritious until you open it. Depending on the product, that also means specific critical control points, or CCPs, built into the line to catch problems before they can reach you. Additionally, we evaluate each batch to verify that their quality matches our standards.

Meals

Plenny Shake and Plenny Shake Pro follow the same QA process (different formula, same controls). The powder is filled and sealed in pouches in a climate-controlled room and all powders go through a sieve. The pouch material blocks moisture and oxygen to keep things shelf-stable.

Plenny Oats uses the same pouch format and protocols as our shakes, with its own recipe and weight checks, a sieving step to catch clumps or foreign particles, and a controlled bag-sealing process before the pack is cleaned down with compressed air.

Plenny Bar is designed with low water activity, which limits most pathogenic microbial growth. The bars are wrapped in multi-layer metalized polypropylene that blocks gas and moisture, keeping them stable even in humid conditions. Every bar passes through metal detection, one of our CCPs.

Plenny Drink comes in Tetra Pak: paperboard for structure, polyethylene as a moisture barrier, and aluminium foil to block oxygen and light. That combination keeps the nutritional value and flavour locked in. This line has more CCPs than most: a high-heat treatment step that destroys pathogens, an automatic sieve that catches any foreign particles, and a peroxide sterilisation bath that keeps the packaging itself sterile before the product is filled aseptically.

Plenny Pot uses the same pouch format as the shakes for an excellent oxygen barrier. The result: fresh meals with a long shelf life. Metal detection is a CCP on this line too, and fill weight is checked before sealing.

Snacks

Plenny Protein Shake is packed in sealed pouches and follows the same process as our meal shakes.

Plenny Crisps are packed in sealed bags under a protective atmosphere out of oxygen, keeping them crunchy and fresh. Metal detection and the nitrogen-flush step are both CCPs on this line.

Supplements

Omega 3 capsules are packaged to protect the oil from light and moisture. Before filling, the oil passes through a magnetic trap and a filtration step to catch any metal or foreign particles, and capsules are sorted and inspected before packaging. On top of standard safety testing, we do a periodical TOTOX (Total Oxidation) evaluation. This confirms the oil is genuinely fresh, not just "within limits."

Creatine Gummies are packaged to guard against moisture and temperature swings. Stability testing confirms creatine levels hold up through the end of shelf life.

Creatine Monohydrate powder is packed to guard against moisture, oxygen and light. Stability testing makes sure the powder stays stable throughout the shelf life.

Pre-Workout powder is packed in pots to protect against moisture, oxygen and light. Stability testing makes sure the active ingredients remain within specification from production to expiry.

Sensory characteristics and water activity are monitored from the production moment, throughout the full shelf life of the bars, where scheduled Total Viable Count and Salmonella laboratory testing is done to ensure product safety and quality. All bars are metal detected and X-rayed before packing.

Storage and warehousing

Once products are finished, our warehouse keeps them sealed, covered and stored under controlled conditions to prevent any contamination before they ship to you.
